13-14 October 2026
hosted by ICK Dans Amsterdam SPACE FOR DANCE ART
What happens when dancers and technologists experiment together? How do AI-generated movement abstractions land in the body? What does it mean to translate physical movement into sound or visual imagery? And what might these encounters ask of the frameworks- creative, institutional, and political- that currently shape dance production?
This is the first onsite Atelier of EDN’s Digital Working Group, hosted by ICK Dans Amsterdam Space for Dance Art. Over two days, interdisciplinary dance artists and creative coders will work hands-on with tools developed under two Horizon Europe research and innovation projects: HAMLET and PREMiERE. Studio experimentation will merge with open conversation, building shared language and embodied knowledge across practice backgrounds.
Research projects
HAMLET (2025-2027) aims at democratizing AI in the Cultural and Creative Industries. The consortium is co-designing AI-based technologies for the analysis and synthesis of movement and music, the generation of 3D content, and the networking of XR environments. The project culminates in the HAMLET Virtual Community Hub, a co-creation space based on the ethical sharing of technological and financial resources among artists and developers. In the atelier, emphasis is given to the re-embodiment of and interaction with AI-generated movement abstractions.
PREMiERE (2022-2025) developed AI/XR-based technologies for better preservation, understanding, and accessibility of the performing arts. It brought about the 3D Virtual Theater, an environment for archiving, streaming, and co-creating performances. Among the project results is the AI-Toolbox, a set of digital instruments designed by Instituto Stocos for the real-time analysis, synthesis and transformation of motion data. In the atelier, emphasis is given to translating the expressiveness of body movement into other sensory modalities such as acoustics and visual imagery.

Who is this Atelier for
We are looking for 8 interdisciplinary dance artists and creative coders (individuals or small groups) who have a demonstrated body of work at the intersection of choreographic practice and digital technologies. You have been developing an individual artistic language and have existing experience working with dance and interactive media, alongside curiosity about where that practice might go next.
You are interested in building shared vocabularies across dance and technology, and in engaging critically with questions about the role of the dancing body in the digital era, including the policy and production frameworks that shape it. Familiarity with tools such as motion capture, Python, SuperCollider, AI and machine learning, Arduino, OpenFrameworks, or C++ is welcome but not required.
The Atelier is open to participants from EDN member organisations and their professional communities, as well as external participants.

EDN Travel support
EDN offers travel support for a limited number of participants from the network’s DIGITAL working group, EDN member organisations and their associated freelance communities. If you are not a member of EDN and would still like to apply for the EDN travel support, you can reach out to an EDN member organisation near you.
The travel reimbursement cannot exceed the maximum travel contribution amount, as calculated here, and includes 2 per diems at 40€ per day.
EDN books and covers up to 2 nights of accommodation at a hotel in Amsterdam Nieuw-West (ca. 10 minutes by tram from the Atelier’s location) for up to 7 participants.
A participation fee of 150€ will be invoiced to the participant or their organisation. If a cancellation occurs less than 7 days before the activity, the participation fee will not be refunded.
Travel support can include a top-up from EDN's Green Travel Programme to cover additional costs of slow or low-impact travel.
To offset additional access needs, participants can apply for a top-up from EDN's Accessibility Travel Programme.
Selection criteria for EDN travel support
In cases where the number of applications exceeds the available travel support, allocation is based on the following criteria, in order of priority:
How to participate without EDN travel support
It is possible to join the Atelier without receiving EDN’s travel support. Attendance is free of charge. Check On-the-Move's Mobility Funding Guides or get in touch with your local Creative Europe Culture Desk to explore ways to fund your trip.
