Project "Socio-Political Agency of Contemporary Dance: USA-Balkan Exchange: Practise and Discourse Sharing Laboratory" is a collaboration between The Chocolate Theatеr (New York), Movement Research Inc. (New York), New Dramaturgies Platform (Sofia) and EDN members Lokomotiva - Centre for new initiatives in arts and culture (Skopje) and Stanica/Station Service for contemporary dance (Belgrade).

The main aim of the project is to explore contemporary dance at the interface with the political and to raise awareness of the socio-political agency of artists and their practise. The project explores the artistic strategies in contemporary dance to constitute the civil sphere in society from which critique can only be derived if it's located outside the organised order of civil structures of organisation and control.

The first part of the project took place in the Balkans between 17 and 31 October - successively in Sofia, Belgrade and Skopje. The next part will take place in May 2023, when artists, curators and theorists from Bulgaria, Serbia and Northern Macedonia will travel to New York to collaborate with their American colleagues in a week-long laboratory residency at the Chocolate Factory Theatre. They'll also have the opportunity to attend courses and workshops at Movement Research.
