Navigating unknown waters with a summer festival

For its 32nd edition, Tanz im August (Berlin, Germany) took place over ten days in a "special edition".

To conform with health regulations due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the festival presented online and outdoor works by artists from its original line-up as well as newly invited artists. With the open format Meet the Artist, artists gave an insight into their practices with audio choreographies, digital discussion forums, texts, films and online performances. Many of the works were followed by streamed artist talks and live Q&As.

Springback Magazine's Emily May reports on the festival and shares her interview with Virve Sutinen, Tanz im August director. An interesting read to dive into the new format of a contemporary dance festival in COVID time.

Find the interview on springbackmagazine.com.
