Transformations is a new programme of artists’ residencies run by the Maison de la Danse. The nearby NTH8 theatre has been made temporarily available for the programme by the City of Lyon as a quick and effective response to the need for spaces to develop choreography.

The programme is part of a long tradition of dance in Lyon’s 8th arrondissement and will contribute to the neighbourhood’s cultural development and vitality. It comes in the run up to the opening of the Ateliers de la Danse studios - part of the local Kennedy development project - and the 8ème Festival: a new cultural event that will transform the 8th arrondissement into a space for open, artistic experimentation, set to take place in the 2023-24 season.

From October 10, 2022, as part of its Off-Site program, the Maison de la Danse is hosting artists exploring movement and the body as a medium for transformations, over a period of three months. Eight local companies are set to take up residencies of 7 to 15 days and participate in discussions with locals and industry professionals.

Transformations was designed in conjunction with the 2023 Lyon Biennale de la Danse and to supplement other local efforts to support emerging choreography, including those of Le Croiseur - Scène Découverte danse, the National Centre for Dance (CND), The Rillieux-la-Pape National Choreography Centre (CCNR), Subs, RAMDAM, UN CENTRE D’ART, Studio Chatha and more.
