Dance Connect aimed to facilitate the mobility of Indian emerging choreographers

Dance Connect - the project

In September - November 2015, a selection of artists was offered an artistic and technical residency together with a meet and greet with the European local contexts including the visit to some festivals and encounters with local artists, workshops, amongst others.

The selected artists to participate in Dance Connect were Hemabharathy Palani with the piece "Twine", Prasanna Saika with "Diabolique" and Surjit Nongmeikapam with "Nerves". This selection was done during the EDN Outreach to Bangalore (Attakkalari Biennial), a visit that offered the opportunity to meet the creators in their local context.

Key activities

  • 3 selected choreographers (9 artists in total working in the projects).
  • Visit to Barcelona in September 2015 for a residency stage and a presentation.
  • Visit to Montemor-o-Novo in October 2015 for a residency period.
  • Dance Umbrella festival presented the shows and workshops by 2 of the selected artists in October 2015.

Key outcomes

  • 3 selected choreographers and a total of 9 artists worked internationally to develop artistic projects.
  • International mobility for dance artists was promoted.
  • Introduction of Indian artists to new audiences.

Dance Connect was organised under the leadership of Attakalari (IN). EDN partners included Mercat de les Flors / Graner (Barcelona, Spain) and O Espaço do Tempor (Montemor-o-Novo, Portugal). Non-EDN partners included the festival Dance Umbrella (UK).
