Round Table Discussion "Dance, Health & Wellbeing"

during Tanzplattform Deutschland in Freiburg, Germany (21-25 February 2024)

What strategies and skills for health and well-being can dance bring to society?
And how can those same strategies and skills inform our own work environment and the measures needed to improve conditions for dance professionals?

As EDN’s activities in 2024 will focus on these themes, we’d like to use this conversation and the exchange as a starting point for our research that will lead up to a publication with recommendations for the field and policy makers.

The discussion will be held in English and moderated by Monica Gillette.

28-29 March 2024

EDN Atelier “Dance in Society”

hosted by Le Gymnase CDCN, France

during Festival Le Grand Bain (19 March - 12 April 2024)

How can dance empower people? Artists and experts will be discussing this question during the Atelier that will be hosted during the Festival Le Grand Bain.

Drawing a connection to the European cooperation project Dance Well, including people with movement disorders or neurological diseases, the Atelier will also deal with questions of dance, care and well-being in our working conditions.

EDN Atelier “Dance & Resilience”

hosted by Tanec Praha, Czechia

following the Czech Dance Platform (7-10 April 2024)

The EDN Atelier “Dance & Resilience” in Prague will focus on the Visegrad countries (Czechia, Hungary, Poland, Slovakia) and Ukraine; providing a regional perspective on the topics of career sustainability and the wellbeing of artists, audiences and professionals.

The Atelier will start on the afternoon of 10 April, following the Czech Dance Platform’s final discussion & brunch. During the two following days, the Atelier will propose a series of open discussions and workshops with a presentation of practices from each represented country: Which initiatives have lately been developed to improve the wellbeing of artists in these countries? What are their working conditions really like? How do they go about creating safe and reliable spaces to work on topics that relate to difficult issues?

16-17 May 2024

EDN Atelier “Processes of Healing: Becoming Well Again”

hosted by Dance Gate Lefkosia, Cyprus in collaboration with Dance House Lefkosia

followed by On Bodies Dance and Performance Festival by Dance House Lefkosia (18-19 May 2024)

During the Atelier we will explore various theoretical and performative discourse on the concept of healing and taking time to process trauma. Together with a series of collaborators and researchers from the fields of art, science, and philosophy, we attempt to explore healing both as a theme and a methodology.

What can art practices borrow from healing processes? How do artists address trauma and healing in their work? How can we heal ourselves, our community, and the land that we live in?

Carte Blanche Artist Exchange “PARENT HOOD”

hosted by Dansehallerne Copenhagen, Denmark

How can we, both artists and organisers, create better working conditions for artists with families? How can you, as an artist, organise yourself to allow for both roles?

Addressing the precarious living conditions of being artists and parents at the same time, this Carte Blanche Artist Exchange will be aimed at artists with families and artists interested in this topic. We want to create a sharing and caring space for both parents and children, for you to be with peers in the same or similar situation, allowing you to be professionals, to be with peers and to be parents at the same time.
